CFI chose to reduce energy consumption by creating many sources of natural light, such as windows and skylights throughout our building. Layered and independently switched lighting, and timers throughout our building control over how many lights are on at any one time.

Senior Officers

The professional team at Corpfinance International Limited consists of individuals with a wide variety of experience in banking and finance. The personal resumes below describe in detail the backgrounds of our senior staff.

KEVIN ANDREWS, President & CEO

Kevin Andrews is the President, CEO and majority shareholder of CFI. As leader of the CFI team, Kevin brings over 20 years of specialized corporate finance experience to his position.

Kevin joined CFI in the early 90’s to develop and market what at the time was a new financial product, for automotive and lease financing. Kevin went on to structure a unique financing for rental cars, previously unheard of in Canada and he developed a new funding mechanism for this financing, which resulted in the first non-bank commercial paper issuance of an R-1 (Mid) rated product in Canada. To date, CFI has originated assets of more than $3 billion dollars and CFI Trust (which holds and funds assets) has grown to over $600 million and encompasses 27 originators.

Prior to his work with CFI, Kevin held a management position with one of Canada’s most active foreign banking institutions. During his tenure with this organization, Kevin oversaw specialized lending portfolios.

Since becoming President and CEO, Kevin has been instrumental in positioning and broadening CFI’s suite of offerings to address unique commercial financing needs. In his current role, Kevin is responsible for the day-to-day running of the company, which has over $1 billion in assets under management. He is also responsible for developing new business strategies, and managing long-term growth and development.

Kevin holds a Bsc. Psych and an M.B.A. from Dalhousie University

CHRISTOPHER BALL Executive Vice President

Christopher Ball brings over 30 years of domestic and international lending experience to the position of Executive Vice President of Corpfinance International Limited (CF*) and President of CFI Capital Inc.

Due to the diversity of his professional experiences and his commitment to infrastructure initiatives, Chris has become CFI’s infrastructure and power project specialist.  In addition to his work in the increasingly important energy sector, Chris is also responsible for managing CFI’s structured loan portfolio, where he is directly responsible for originating debt financing and advising on over 100 projects.  Due to Chris’ depth in understanding the intricacies of power project financing, Chris was appointed the President of CFI Capital Inc.  One of his many roles at CFI Capital is to manage a private equity fund of committed capital.  The CFI Infrastucture Opportunities Fund manages infrastructure investments on behalf of large institutional investors who want the oportunity to invest in privately owned Canadian infrasturcuture projects.

Prior to joining CFI, Chris was the Vice President responsible for establishing the cross-Canada presence of a Standard Chartered Bank.  Chris also held various managerial positions within Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce.

Chris is a Director of the Independent Power Association of British Columbia. Also Chris is a recognized speaker within the Hydro Electric Industry and further, he is a Director of Algonquin Power a prominent Independent Utilities Company in North America.

FRANK VIHANT, Senior Vice President, CFO

Frank Vihant joined CFI in the fall of 2006 as a Senior Vice President, responsible for expanding CFI’s suite of structured finance products.

In the Spring of 2007, Frank was appointed CFO of CFI.

Frank brings eighteen years of experience to his position, the last 12 with Maritime Life and Manulife Financial, in both Halifax and Toronto as a Senior Investment Officer responsible for sourcing and approving Canadian private placement debt investments. Prior to joining Maritime Life, Frank worked in Corporate Banking at the Bank of Nova Scotia, in Toronto where he was involved in numerous leveraged buyout transactions in addition to traditional bank lending activities.

Frank’s experience in private debt financing encompasses not only traditional fixed rate term lending, but also exposure to numerous structured finance products.  This knowledge and experience will be utilized to expand CFI’s existing suite of structured finance products.

Frank’s knowledge and extensive experience with private placements will give CFI increased insight into the demands of this market and ensure more seamless interaction with institutional investors.

Frank obtained his BComm from Queens University and his C.A. designation while with Price Waterhouse in Toronto.

ANDRÉ NADON, Vice President

André Nadon is Vice-President and Managing Director of CFI for the Province of Quebec and Eastern Canada. André holds a B.Com from the University of Ottawa and an MBA from École des Hautes Études Commerciales. He has more than 20 years experience in investment and banking.

André has gained extensive experience in the financial services industry where he worked for two major Canadian Chartered Banks. Subsequently, André represented a Canadian affiliate of one of the world’s largest banks where he was responsible for real estate and multinational corporations. Recently, André was President of Capital Beau Bois Inc., a Quebec-based lending company in real estate and corporate financing.

André is on the Executive Committee of the Montreal Amateur Athletic Club.

At CFI, André has the mandate to expand the group’s overall sphere of activities throughout Eastern Canada.

GENE WOLSKI, Senior Vice President, Credit and Operations

Gene Wolski brings to the position of Senior Vice President, Credit and Operations of CFI, more than 30 years of specialized financial experience.

At CFI, Gene’s primary responsibilities include overseeing the review structuring, and underwriting of credit transactions, documentation finalization, portfolio management, institutional relations, and the maintenance and development of existing and emerging institutional funding sources.

Prior to his position with CFI, Gene served for 15 years as Vice President and Corporate Secretary at Penfund Management Limited, a leading mid-market lender. As one of the company’s principals, Gene was responsible for managing and developing a diverse portfolio of senior and junior debt positions, including related restructuring work undertaken on behalf of some of Canada’s major financial institutions.

Gene has an undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto and an MBA from Queen’s University.

DAVID BELL, Managing Director

David Bell joined CFI Capital Inc. in 2002 as a Managing Director. David has over 20 years of corporate finance and banking experience, including positions with Lehman Brothers and NM Rothschild & Sons where he provided M&A advisory and capital raising services to corporate clients. David is responsible for managing the $80 million CFI Infrastructure Opportunities Fund.  David has played a key role in originating, assessing, negotiating, structuring and closing numerous equity investments by the CFI Infrastructure Opportunities Fund.

While at Lehman Brothers from 2000 to 2002, David worked as a Vice President providing investment banking coverage to technology, media and telecom companies, including advising AT&T Wireless with respect to a transaction involving Rogers Wireless and British Telecommunications. While working as a Vice President at NM Rothschild & Sons from 1997 to 2000, David advised Rogers Wireless on the C$1.4 billion sale of a 33% equity interest to AT&T and BT, he advised Rogers Communications on the C$1 billion sale of Rogers Telecom (CLEC) to MetroNet and advised the Province of Ontario with respect to the province’s educational broadcaster, TVOntario. David’s prior experience as an Associate with other Canadian investment dealers from 1993 to 1997 includes various successful financing and advisory assignments. Before moving into the investment banking industry, David worked in Bank of Montreal’s corporate banking department from 1989 to 1993.

In addition to managing the CFI Infrastructure Opportunities Fund, David’s focus at CFI Capital includes providing financial advisory services such as mergers & acquisitions, private placement of equity securities, and other corporate finance activities to private and publicly-traded mid-market clients. He is also responsible for the development and management of new equity products.

David holds an M.B.A from the University of Toronto and is a Chartered Financial Analyst.

SIMON KINNAIRD, Vice President

As a capital markets specialist, Simon brings over 20 years of creative financing experience to his position as Vice President of CFIs Structured Finance division.

Prior to joining CFI, Simon was Vice President of a large multi-national real estate advisory firm where he was responsible for structuring domestic and cross-border debt financing and private equity placements. Simon has also held senior positions at GE Capital and Bank of America.

With over $1 billion in transaction experience, across all asset classes, in both domestic and foreign markets, Simon delivers high quality strategic advice and creative solutions to our clients.

Recent transactions include credit tenant financing, sale-leasebacks and infrastructure project financing for non-profit and for-profit healthcare, energy, housing and transportation entities.

Simon is a business administration graduate from Concordia University of Montreal and a member of many professional infrastructure associations in Canada.

JOHN BURNS, Legal Consultant

John joined CFI from the national law firm of Gowling Lafleur Henderson LLP where he was a partner and head of the National Corporate / Commercial Law Practice Group. John brings to CFI his considerable expertise gained in over 30 years in the practice of corporate and commercial law in Toronto for both private and public companies.

John is actively involved in CFI’s automotive and lease financing group, project finance and equity investment business and facilitates an efficient and smooth closing process for the more complex transactions we undertake.

In 1992, in recognition of his significant volunteer work with community based organizations, John was awarded the Commemorative Medal for the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada by the Governor General of Canada.

John has a BA in Economics from the University of Western Ontario and an LLB from the University of Ottawa.

JACQUES HUOT, Vice President

Jacques Huot brings over 30 years of domestic and international finance, specializing in project and infrastructure finance, to the position of Vice- President at CFI.

Jacques’ expertise in the area of infrastructure financing is highlighted by his experience with public-private partnerships in Canada. As Vice President Public-Private Partnerships at Ontario SuperBuild, an agency of the Government of Ontario, his responsibilities included the design and implementation of a public-private partnership initiative, the privatization of provincially owned business enterprises, and he co-chaired the committee responsible for the development and implementation of policies regarding the restructuring of Ontario’s electricity sector.

In addition, Jacques has held positions with Citibank, N.A. and with SNC Lavalin.

As an aboriginal Canadian, Jacques is focusing his considerable expertise on the needs of Canada’s First Nations in the areas of power, water and housing.  Jacques also serves as a member of the Boards of Anishnawbe Health Toronto, a clinic serving the needs of the aboriginal community in the Greater Toronto Area and NaMeRes a shelter for homeless aboriginal men and teens.

PAUL McCUAIG, Vice President

Paul McCuaig, as a key member of CFI’s Energy Team, brings over 25 years of experience in business development and finance, with an extensive grounding in the North American energy sector. He has expertise in power markets and renewable energy, with knowledge of key energy market developments in Ontario and other North American jurisdictions.

Prior to joining CFI, Paul was Regional Manager for the Toronto office of Powerex, BC Hydro’s marketing and trading subsidiary.  The Toronto office was established to allow Powerex to better pursue niche opportunities in the east, including financial, term and structured energy products.  In his capacity as Regional Manager, Paul introduced unique products such as PPAs for unit contingent nuclear energy, and transactions supported by credit default insurance.

Paul’s banking experience included the position Vice President, Energy Group, BNP in which he played the role of primary contact to serve the varied needs of large, medium and small sized energy producers throughout Canada. 

Paul has been on the Conference Planning Committee for the Association of Power Producers of Ontario, and been an active member of various committees, groups, and panels for such organizations as the IESO, PJM and NEPOOL. He has been a presenter at such venues as the Conference Board of Canada, APPrO, and the Enerdata Power Fair. His disparate energy sector background gives him a unique perspective in advising CFI’s customers how to optimize the value of their assets and add value to the financial structuring of their energy projects.

Paul has a BSc. from McGill University and an MBA from University of Alberta.

EUGENE HODGSON, Vice President

Eugene Hodgson joined CFI in December of 2006, bringing almost 30 years of private and public sector experience to his position as Vice President - Western Region in CFI’s Project Finance Division, based in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Eugene began his public sector career in the Northwest Territories where he acted as Senior Policy Advisor on resource based projects. In the early 80’s he served as Executive Assistant to the Minister of the Environment, Lands, Parks and Housing in the British Columbia Government.

Eugene’s diverse private sector business experience includes positions as Director of Investments for a mineral investment fund, First Capital Inc., VP Corporate Development for a water based transportation company, Director of a renewable energy development company and Director of Corporate Development for Intrawest Corporation. While at Intrawest, Eugene negotiated millions of dollars in infrastructure funds from the Quebec and Federal governments. These funds were critical to the development of the Mont Tremblant Ski Resort. He was also responsible for investor and community relations at Intrawest.

Eugene is Co-Chair of the BC Wind Energy Association and a member of the Public Affairs Committee of CANWEA and CARE and a member of the Advisory Council of the Independent Power Producers of BC.

Eugene’s extensive private industry skills, his leadership within the energy sector, his unique government experience combined with his knowledge of infrastructure funding make him the ideal candidate to head the Western Office as CFI expands and grows its business in this dynamic and important market.
