Services
Since sources of capital have become more complex and diversified, businesses are seeking alternative financing methods for the purpose of project financing or acquiring fixed assets. CFI is responding to these needs by offering our customers tailored financing solutions that address the unique nature of their business needs, whatever they may be.
By leveraging the vast financial capacity of our corporate partners and institutional shareholder, CFI has the ability to structure term financings without the restrictions characteristic of traditional bank financings, and without the necessity of matching long term fixed cash flows to artificially short term funding.
CFI specializes in structuring and providing customized funding and financing solutions for a large range of project financing such as co-generation and hydro electric energy prospects and provides infrastructure financing for many public and private sector projects such as nursing homes and public schools.
In addition to our substantial lending capabilities CFI offers a wide range of capital solutions through our subsidiary, CFI Capital Inc. CFI Capital is the manger of the CFI Infrastructure Opportunities Fund LP (“The Fund”). The Fund, launched in 2004, was designed to meet the increased demand for financing for infrastructure projects and Public Sector-Private Sector Partnerships. The fund is designed to invest in a diverse portfolio of private and public Canadian infrastructure projects including power generation plants, water and waste treatment plants and health services facilities.
The investors in The Fund are the Ontario Teachers Pension Plan and the Teachers’ Retirement Allowances Fund (Manitoba), Kilmer Van Nostrand and The Canadian Medical Protective Association.
CFI Capital also offers financial advisory services to private and publicly traded clients, as well as the development and management of new equity products. CFI Capital offers our clients an independent perspective and provides a broad range of advisory services including mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, sub-debt, equity and other corporate finance activities.
Since 1993 CFI has been one of Canada’s leaders in automotive structured finance. We utilize our AAA rated $700 million, special purpose trust (CFI Trust) to allow over 30 Canadian auto leasing companies access to the capital markets and their inherent lower cost funding which is traditionally not available for anyone other than Canada’s largest corporations.

Asset Management
CFI’s team of experienced lenders and administrative staff is the underlying strength of our Asset Management Services which is a service we provide for companies that wish to outsource management and/or divest themselves of their loan portfolios. In this regard, we administer business for others and/or acquire such portfolios whether they be loans or leases.
Our Source of Funds
CFI is a single comprehensive financial services company that can meet all your capital requirements from equity to sub-debt and senior debt. The management team at CFI provides innovative term financing solutions, drawing directly on the vast financial capacity of our institutional partners and shareholders with whom the company has established strategic alliances over the years as well as our own in-house managed equity fund.
This substantial source of capital gives CFI the ability to structure term financings without the restrictions normally applicable to traditional bank financings and without the necessity of matching interest rates to an arbitrary cost of funds. The full gamut of floating rate and fixed rate products are provided to match the requirements of our customers. The range includes floating rate financing indexed to Bankers’ Acceptances, Treasury Bills on the short term, to twenty and thirty year fixed rate fixed term financing indexed to comparable termed government securities on the long term.
Our Role
In even the largest of our structured financings, CFI is the principal. This allows the corporate borrower to access vast pools of capital while limiting its dealings to only one party.
CFI does not provide operating credit. However, because of our intimate working knowledge of banking practices, we are fully cognizant of the relationship a company must maintain with its operating line banker. Our objective is not to replace your bank but to structure financings which allows for a workable relationship between the borrower, the borrower’s bank and CFI.
When CFI provides your term credit and your bank provides your operating credit, you not only have professionals looking after both types of credit but your independence is assured, as no single lender has control over your company.
Our Approach
A tailored approach to financing is the only logical choice in an increasingly complex business environment. Off-the-shelf financial services no longer have the flexibility required to meet current and future needs of today’s business. Innovative structuring and flexible terms are integral to developing and implementing financial plans matched to the borrower’s asset base and cash flow requirements. By individually tailoring a financing, the professional team at CFI adds substantial value to a transaction. CFI prides itself on being a specialty lender with the expertise and resources required to address issues in a professional and timely manner.
Structuring
This innovative approach to financing is made possible because CFI does not operate on preconceived, rigid policies. Our Customer’s/Borrower’s particular needs and business acumen dictate the structure of the financing. Consequently, we are able to accommodate a broad spectrum of customer requirements.
CFI has been the innovator of a large variety of financing structures. Our transactions normally range from $10 million to $100 million with terms and amortization of up to thirty years. While most financing is secured, lending on an unsecured basis can be provided where cash flows are predictable with a high degree of certainty
Our People
The professional teams at CFI consist of individuals with a wide variety of experiences in banking and finance. Prior to joining CFI, all of our professional underwriters held senior positions with other financial institutions gaining experience in Canada and throughout the world.
The CFI professional team has a range of experience including Leasing, Corporate Finance, Real Estate Financing, Accounting and Taxation. Our team approach makes this range of experience available to all of our customers.
